Assembly Bypoll Election Results Live: BJP and AAP Win One Seat Each in Gujarat; Congress-led UDF Claims Nilambur in Kerala
The counting of votes for the recent assembly bypolls began Monday morning, revealing mixed results across several states. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have each secured one seat in the Gujarat Assembly by-elections, while the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) emerged victorious in the Nilambur constituency of Kerala.
The bypolls, held on June 19, covered five seats — two in Gujarat’s Visavadar and Kadi constituencies, and one each in Nilambur (Kerala), Ludhiana West (Punjab), and Kaliganj (West Bengal). These elections were necessitated due to the deaths of sitting legislators in Gujarat, West Bengal, and Punjab, along with the resignation of two MLAs in Kerala and Gujarat.
In Gujarat, AAP’s Gopal Italia won the Visavadar seat, marking a significant gain for the Arvind Kejriwal-led party in the state. The BJP’s Rajendra Chavda secured the Kadi seat, maintaining the party’s stronghold there. Meanwhile, the AAP also recorded a win in Punjab’s Ludhiana West bypoll, further consolidating its presence beyond Delhi.
In West Bengal, the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), led by Mamata Banerjee, is currently leading in the Kaliganj constituency, as per the latest trends available on the Election Commission of India website.
On the Kerala front, the Congress-led UDF clinched the Nilambur seat with Aryadan Shoukath’s victory. Following the result, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra congratulated her party colleague and thanked the voters of Nilambur for their trust in the UDF’s vision. Gandhi emphasized the importance of teamwork and commitment in achieving this success.
“We worked as a team, each one with commitment and single-pointed focus. Heartiest congratulations to Aryadan Shoukath and all the leaders and workers of the UDF who made this victory possible,” she tweeted. She further expressed gratitude to the people of Nilambur for their belief in constitutional values and the UDF’s vision for progress, which will guide the party moving forward.
