Delhi-NCR Wakes Up to Light Rain; Yellow Alert Issued for Surrounding Areas
Delhi-NCR woke up to light rain on Monday morning following a day of persistent showers across the region. After witnessing incessant rainfall on Sunday, parts of the capital and its neighbouring areas experienced a damp start to the new week, offering a brief respite from the prevailing summer heat.
On Sunday, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 38.4 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature stood at 25.1 degrees Celsius — two degrees below the seasonal average. The rain brought a welcome dip in temperatures, though high humidity continued to linger.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast generally cloudy skies over Delhi for Monday. Light rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, is expected throughout the day. According to the IMD, the maximum temperature is likely to settle between 32 and 34 degrees Celsius, while the minimum is expected to hover between 23 and 25 degrees Celsius.
While no major weather warning has been issued for Delhi today, the IMD has predicted the possibility of very light rain or drizzle in different parts of the city. The rainfall is not expected to be intense but may disrupt outdoor activities during parts of the day.
Meanwhile, a yellow alert has been issued for the wider National Capital Region (NCR), including areas such as Gurugram, Faridabad, Rewari, Mewat, and Palwal. The alert, issued by the regional IMD office in Chandigarh, indicates the potential for isolated heavy rainfall or thunderstorms in these areas. Residents are advised to remain cautious and plan their travel accordingly.
The recent rainfall is part of a larger monsoonal system influencing northern India, with multiple states witnessing varied weather conditions. While Delhi has experienced light to moderate rain, states like Madhya Pradesh are on red alert due to the threat of heavy downpours and potential flooding.
The IMD will continue to monitor the evolving weather situation. For Delhi-NCR, light showers may continue intermittently over the next few days, helping to ease temperatures and improve air quality in the region.
