MEA: India Denies Trump’s Claim, Says No Trade Discussion Took Place After Operation Sindoor

New Delhi, May 13, 2025 – India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has officially denied claims made by former U.S. President Donald Trump, in which he suggested that trade-related discussions had taken place between the two countries following the recent Operation Sindoor.

In a press briefing held today, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated, “There have been no discussions or negotiations on trade matters with the United States following the conclusion of Operation Sindoor. We categorically reject any suggestion to the contrary.”

Trump, in a recent interview, claimed that Indian officials had reached out to discuss trade ties shortly after the success of Operation Sindoor — a major evacuation mission conducted by India to rescue its citizens from a conflict zone abroad. While Trump did not provide specific details or mention any official names, his statement prompted immediate clarification from New Delhi.

The MEA emphasized that Operation Sindoor was a humanitarian mission and should not be linked to unrelated matters such as trade diplomacy. “Our focus during Operation Sindoor was the safe return of Indian nationals. Any interpretation beyond that is factually incorrect,” the spokesperson added.

The Indian government also highlighted the importance of maintaining accuracy and responsibility in public statements, especially those involving bilateral relations and international operations.

As of now, there is no official confirmation of any scheduled trade talks between India and the United States. The MEA reiterated India’s commitment to transparent and mutually respectful diplomatic engagement.
