In his stirring 79th Independence Day address from the Red Fort, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a firm and defiant message underscoring the triumph of Operation Sindoor, signaling a bold new era in India’s defense posture.
Key Highlights from the Prime Minister’s Address
- PM Modi declared, “What our forces achieved in Operation Sindoor has not been witnessed in decades. We have set a new normal in tackling cross-border terrorism,” reinforcing that India will respond decisively to any misadventure from neighbouring territories. He emphasized that terrorists and those who facilitate them will be treated identically, and that India would not be swayed by nuclear blackmail.
- The Prime Minister commended the armed forces for delivering a “punishment for the Pahalgam attack far beyond the enemy’s imagination.” He linked the success of the operation directly to India’s strategic autonomy, stating that such a precision response would not have been possible without being ‘Atmanirbhar’ (self-reliant).
- Symbolizing the operation’s prominence, two Mi-17 helicopters flew over the historic ramparts—one carrying the national flag and the other bearing a banner with “Operation Sindoor.” Both showers of flower petals mirrored national pride and military achievement.
- Awards were conferred upon heroes of Operation Sindoor:
- Vir Chakra (third-highest wartime gallantry award) was bestowed upon nine IAF fighter pilots, four army personnel, and two BSF members.
- Additionally, 16 BSF personnel were honored with gallantry medals for valorous action during the mission.
