Ex-CM Jagan Reddy Named as Kickback Recipient in ₹3,500 Crore Andhra Liquor Scam Chargesheet, But Not an Accused
YSR Congress Party president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has been named as a recipient of kickbacks in the ₹3,500 crore alleged liquor scam case, according to a 305-page chargesheet filed by the state police. While Jagan is not listed as an accused, the chargesheet alleges he received between ₹50-60 crore per month from the proceeds of the scam.
The chargesheet was submitted to a local court in Amaravati on Saturday, though the court has not yet taken cognizance of the case. The investigation centers on an alleged liquor syndicate that operated in the state, funneling massive sums of money through illegal means.
According to a PTI report, the police claim that the money collected from the liquor operations was eventually handed over to Kesireddy Rajasekhar Reddy, who has been identified as Accused No. 1 (A-1) in the case. Jagan’s name appears in the document as a beneficiary of these transactions, though no formal charges have been filed against him.
Reacting to the development, Jagan Mohan Reddy took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to dismiss the case as a politically motivated fabrication. “This so-called liquor scam is a manufactured narrative, created for media theatrics and to distract from real governance issues,” he wrote.
He further alleged that the case is built on coerced statements, saying, “The entire case relies on statements extracted under pressure, through threats, third-degree torture, bribes, and inducements.”
Jagan and his party, the YSR Congress, have faced increasing political pressure since their defeat in the 2024 assembly elections. The timing of the chargesheet, just weeks after a change in government, has raised eyebrows and drawn criticism from his supporters, who allege it is part of a political vendetta.
With the court yet to take formal cognizance of the chargesheet, it remains to be seen whether the claims will lead to further legal action or be dismissed as politically motivated.
